Recipe: Holiday Digestive Munch
I brought this munch to Thanksgiving dinner, and it was a huge hit. People love the taste and the digestive benefits. At the end of the meal, everyone thoroughly enjoyed a pinch (or five, teehee) of this munch to chew and swallow.
Fennel is the king here for helping with any indigestion, gas, or bloating. It’s also a wonderful spice to incorporate for less period pain, if that’s a concern.
Cardamom follows up the effects of fennel and acts similarly but with the ability to help reduce any phlegm or congestion you may be experiencing.
Ginger, where do we start? It’s pungency blasts right through any stuck food in the system and awakens the lifeforce of the body. In Ayurveda it’s called the universal medicine. If you tend towards hot flashes, onset insomnia, or reflux, notice if it’s a fit for you or not. It can be helpful in the aforementioned conditions, but not always.
This Munch would make an excellent gift (I’ve given it in past years). ENJOY!
Holiday Digestive Munch
1 Tbsp candied ginger, minced
3 Tbsp fennel seeds
½ tsp ground cardamom seeds
pinch of ground clove
In a hot pan, lightly toast the fennel seeds for a few minutes, stirring regularly so they don’t burn. Once cool, combine fennel seeds, ginger, cardamom, and clove in a small bowl. Stir well. Store in a glass jar and enjoy a pinch or two after holiday feasts. You could also use this mixture to make tea; just add hot water.
